All About Mrs. Peterson

Welcome!

Many families want to get to know a little bit more about their teacher.  This will be my 12th year teaching.  I have had a truly wonderful career that has spanned a variety of different programs: including an inclusive second grade class in NY, a SDC K-2 position, a RSP position at a community middle and high school and a SDC position at a middle school.  I have worked with students preschool-12th grade in varying capacities since my time student teaching and have found there is something unique and special that I love about each age range and ability level.  Inclusion is part of both my academic background (I hold a degree in Inclusive Education for Syracuse University) as well as my teaching philosophy and one of my greatest passions is finding ways for students with disabilities to become part of the school community.  It is my belief that all children benefit from appropriate inclusive practices and I think our students have as much to offer their neurotypical peers as they do to gain from the experience.

Outside of school I enjoy anything related to the water, from swimming to surfing.  As a NY native, one of my favorite things about living in CA is the access to the ocean and my favorite place is Monterey Bay.  Luckily, both my husand and dog love it there as well.  I am a huge animal lover and have a dog, gecko, rabbit and fish.  We will soon be adding a baby to our family list as well, as we are expecting in October!  This will be our first and Brian and I are both very excited.

I believe in an open line of communication with families so please feel free to contact me either through email or by phone.  I'm always happy to answer questions, address concerns or just chat about your child's progress at school.
